The following is a semi-automated trouble shooting guide provided by H.R. Simon and Company to the world. Our customers and their end-users are always welcome to call us at (410) 636-5555 if the answers cannot be found in this guide. If you suspect that the chemicals are at fault, or that the chemicals have been affected, as always, please send us at least a one quart (1 liter) sample of each of the processor's solutions and the replenishment solutions. Please notify us before sending samples.

Chemical Problems
 
  Developer Turns Black  
 
 
  Developer is oxidized from prolonged exposure to the air. Always make sure that developer is kept in an enclosed container.
Excessive heat has been applied to the developer. This usually happens when the processor has been left on without going into stand-by and without introducing replenisher for long periods of time.
  Combination of the above.
   
Fixer turns milky in color
Chemistry has strong ammonia smell
Chemistry has frozen
